African Stand started with a simple observation: the newsrooms doing the most important work on the continent often have the smallest teams and the tightest budgets. The tools built for global wire services and large publishers were never built with that reality in mind.

Our story
We spoke to editors running national newspapers with a handful of reporters, radio stations covering entire counties with one producer, and government communications offices expected to publish in four languages with no translator on staff. The pattern was the same everywhere: too much to publish, too little capacity, and a real fear that speed would come at the cost of accuracy.
So we built a platform that gives a small desk the leverage of a large one — drafting, fact-checking, translating, designing, and distributing a story — while keeping a human editor firmly in charge of what actually gets published.
